Summer Research Internship @ Stanford
This summer, I was fortunate to get selected for a research internship at the Terrestrial Carbon Cycling Group at Stanford’s School of Sustainability, under Dr. Alison Hoyt.
I worked on tracking changes in the soil carbon dynamics of Mangrove sites in Ecuador across a disturbance gradient with Phd candidate Julie Shahan. Specifically, I conducted Loss on Ignition Testing to analyse the changes in unstable to stable carbon ratios across sites and used data analysis techniques to support the hypothesis that the ration of unstable to stable carbon decreases following mangrove forest degradation. The resulting research was accepted for presentation at AsiaFlux Conference 2025 in Indonesia.

AsiaFlux Conference 2025
I was invited by Prof. Hoyt to attend the Asia Flux Conference 2025 where I presented a poster capturing the research I conducted whilst interning at Stanford University. Along with receiving feedback on my research and connecting with researchers in the field of nature based solutions, I deepened my own understanding of advances in ecosystem carbon and greenhouse gas fluctuations by attending the presentations of experts from around the globe.
Additionally, I participated in the Young Scientists Meeting where I heard from women in the climate field about their experiences and advice, which was incredibly inspiring and motivating.
